Toll Road Texting Scam Alert | GWRideConnect

540-373-7665

There is a new text scam on the rise.  Since early March, more than 2000 reports have been made to the FBI about text messages that are attempting to collect unpaid tolls from various state toll roads. They appear to be from a state toll road agency.  The text messages contain a link asking the recipient to click the link and pay for a toll before a late fee is applied to their balance. When you click the link, it will ask for sensitive information, including credit card numbers.

If you have received a text that you believe to be a fraudulent message attempting to collect a toll, you can report it to the FBI at www.ic3.gov and include the phone number that the message was from and a copy of the message. If you have already clicked the link, contact your financial institution to dispute any unauthorized charges. You can verify if you owe a toll in Virginia at https://www.tollroadsinvirginia.com or https://www.ezpassva.com.
